Hi, I am new to owning bearded dragons, but have done a lot of research and am on the lookout for a red phase baby. In the meantime we bought a large vivarium custom made from Aussie hardwood, but didn't realise the inside of the enclosure smells like varnish, which can't be good. The front is sliding glass doors, there are 2 large vents in the back panel and 4 small ones in the lower front. Can anyone advise me on potential irritant risk to the baby if the smell won't dissipate and does anyone have any idea how I can get rid of it (be kind please, I'm new to all this)? Many thanks.

Hi Octoberg,

Just continue to air the enclosure for around a week, the smell will eventually go away. Just keep the sliding doors open and in a nice dry well vented area.

You can help speed things up a bit by running a light in it as well. That'll generate a bit more heat and help "cure" the varnish.

yeah i do that with my new tanks(all home built). It works heaps faster than letting it air out by itself.just make sure its well ventilated still.
